We came back from Pennsylvania, only to find a snow and sleet and freezing rain storm was about to come by. School was canceled and we reveled in the freedom for at least another day.

Funeral Picture Ops

Let’s face it, there just aren’t many picture opportunities at a funeral. But at grandma’s funeral, I have to say that the great-grands made it picture worthy. After taking this picture (and I’m not the only one, so don’t look down on me), someone said, “At least Grandma’s in the picture!” She would have laughed, because that’s just the way she was. And I’ll miss her dearly until we see each other again.

Also, this is one of those rare pictures where none of the boys are picking their nose!

Nana’s Old Wine

Dad decided to pull out Nana’s liquors and old wine (his mother-in-laws) and either give them a try or just give them a pour down the drain. In his words, “She’s had these since your mom and I got married!” So, here are the reactions from all the people who decided to brave the try.

Of course, I knew Wes was up for a try too.

In my best British accent, “MM yes, I knew a good vinegar back in ’74, but this pales in comparison. Mm, yes, for the love of God, why not give it a pour dear ole Nana.”

Gourmet Coffee

This place takes gourmet coffee to a whole new level. I knew about different roasting methods, and I consider myself at least a little knowledgeable about coffee know-hows and dos. But now I realize I don’t know the first thing. There were several different mechanisms that you can use to get just the taste you’re looking for in a cup with 7 varying brew methods. With a menu that reads like a wine list, you truly could feel the gourmet being poured in your cup.

Matroyshka Dolls (all 15 of em)

My dad got my cousin Courtney a set of Matroyshka dolls from his recent layover in Moscow. When she opened them, they just kept on opening up. After the 7th, it seemed they would end, but they just kept on opening and opening and opening. They kept on yielding another until 8 of them later. Out came a little itty bitty sand-like doll that I dropped on the floor and only found because it was a black speck. I tried to capture the number of them in this photo, although you might not be able to see the tiniest one.

Christmas Peace

This Christmas marks a need for PEACE!

With so much weighing on my mind, all I can do is turn to Jesus and pray. There is no other reprieve from such difficult times as what is pending (change in jobs, divorce, death to name a few). So we turn to the birth of our Saviour in hopes of a season of peace no matter the circumstances.
